Work Packages

The public project structure is organised around three connected areas.

1. Soundscape understanding

Study how acoustic environments are experienced and identify questions that are meaningful for engineering research. This connects context, perception, and listening-based evidence with the language used in acoustic design.

2. Acoustic concepts

Explore acoustic metamaterials and computational approaches for shaping sound. Modelling and learning-assisted methods can help compare possibilities before selected concepts move to deeper investigation.

3. Integration and evaluation

Bring perception, modelling, and experimental research together, then communicate validated outcomes through publications and demonstrators. A central principle is that an improved numerical indicator is not automatically an improved human experience.

How the areas connect

The three areas form an evidence loop rather than a one-way pipeline: perceptual questions inform acoustic concepts; modelling and experiments reveal what is physically achievable; and evaluation tests whether a change is meaningful in context. Insights can move in either direction as the research develops.

This is intentionally a high-level dissemination summary. Detailed tasks, methods, milestones, candidate designs, and decision criteria are not published here before the corresponding research has been reviewed and released.
